January Music | 2015

Alright so these are the songs defining my January right now. " Sloppy Seconds " - Watsky " I'll Be Good " - Jaymes Young  " Long Way Down "- Robert DeLong " Don't You Find " - Jamie T Honorable mentions from late December: Vance Joy's "Mess is Mine" and Dan Black + Kid Cudi's "Symphonies"   (which has an incredible music video in my opinion) ALSO, I unashamedly am obsessed with J.R.R. Tolkien now. I am not only in love with The Lord of the Rings, but The Hobbit as well. These two songs, Ed Sheeran's "I See Fire" and Billy Boyd's "The Last Goodbye" are constantly on repeat when I am in a chill mood, or just feeling extra emotional over my LOTR/Hobbit obsession. These songs are not only beautifully relevant  and made for the movies, but they are actually incredible songs that I would love even if I did not understand the context behind them.  What have you...

Music is Magic

Ella Eyre is fierce, fiery, and fun. She played at the festival I went to last weekend and my roomie Michelle and I fell in love. We have been nonstop playing her songs "If I Go", "Deeper", and "Love Me Like You".  Vance Joy is lovely and so beautifully Australian. Love his songs "Snaggletooth", "Mess is Mine", and of course "Riptide". Tove Lo is honest. I adore her songs "Habits" and "Not on Drugs". She has such a chill, interesting vibe.  John Newman is my future husband. This is a photo from the festival he kicked ass at last weekend and I still can't believe I touched his chest. Sigh. Anyway, "Love Me Again", "Tribute", "Losing Sleep", and "Cheating" are all flawless. He also has a new song out called "Blame" with Calvin Harris.  This wouldn't be a proper music post on my blog without me mentioning my undying love for Ellie Goulding. T...

Musing Music

Ugh lately I have been stressed and music has certainly been a factor in calming me down. I have been listening non-stop to Max Richter's instrumentals because they are so calming and beautiful. On the other end, my funky alternative music that I love has also been pumping me up with energy. Here are a few of my favs right now: Fitz and the Tantrums |  The Walker Big Data Feat. Joywave | Dangerous The Naked and Famous | Young Blood Kongos |  Come With Me Now What music have you been listening to recently? xx

Hello all :) So I am really excited to do a review of some of the music I have been loving from this past month. Amidst my undying love for my favorites (Ellie Goulding, alt-j, Friendly Fires, American Authors, etc. etc.) I have some new finds that I have been really getting into over the past several weeks.   1) The Dig - These guys are awesome. They are a four-piece psych pop band based in NYC. Their album Midnight Flowers is on point. I love the songs "I Already Forgot Everything You Said" and "Hole in My Heart". 2) Into It. Over It. - Evan Weiss has a pretty sick, indie voice. He gets a bit too rock band cliché for me at times, the kind of music my younger brother likes and the stuff you would find at a Battle of the Bands, but his slow, calm guitar ballads are beautiful.  Check out "Your Antique Organ" and  "The Frames That Used to Greet Me".  3) Jagwar Ma - These boys are my shit right now. I love their album Howlin. They...

Hello! I can't believe how busy life has been since returning to college. I miss being able to post every day or two. My past week has simply been a whirlwind!  This song of the week is "Sweet Louise" by The Belle Brigade.  It has been mine and my roommate Michelle's alarm every morning. Waking up to it is SO delightful. It is a beautiful song and it just makes me feel ready for the day! Give it a listen and tell me what you think <3 xx

August Music!

Hello there!  Here is the music I have been loving this month. I have been listening to a lot of indie rock and alternative bands lately. If you haven't heard of some of these, check them out and let me know what you think! Ellie Goulding - I am assuming that anyone who hasn't been living underneath a rock has heard of my girl Ellie. She has been my favorite singer for the past five years and I can't believe how big she has gotten! Her music is so inspiring, beautiful, and exciting. She keeps cranking out new music and it is so incredible. Here are three of her latest singles: Burn You My Everything Ritual American Authors - I have been listening to them on repeat. They are an American-indie rock band from Brooklyn, NY and they just have such a great vibe. I definitely think their song "Best Day of My Life" has been my summer song! Check these out: Best Day of My Life Best I Could Do Believer Foals - These guys are awesome. They are an...

Song of the Week No. 10

Image
Hello there! So here we are - my 10th song of the week post. I have decided not to cheat this week and limit myself to only choosing ONE.   "Pumpin Blood" by NONONO.  I hope you like it because I have been loving blasting this as loud as possible whenever I hear it, no matter where or when   I hear it.  The bunny at the end  makes  the video.  Let me know what you think! xx

Song of the Week No. 9

So you know when you are obsessed with a song and you play it over and over because it is just so good BUT THEN you have played it 17 times too many and you become sick of it and whenever you hear it you don't feel that same passionate love you felt when you had first heard it? Yeah, I know about that feeling too BECAUSE I DO IT TO EVERY SINGLE SONG I LIKE. But, I guess it is a good thing in a way because I can continue to create these weekly song of the week posts because I change my favorite song about every 5 or 6 days. But, for the second week in a row, I can't choose just one song - so TWO it is! First off, I can't get enough of Lorde right now. Her song "Royals" is quirky, clever, and catchy. First time I heard it was actually when catching up on my Taryn Southern subscription on YouTube. She did a cover with Julia Price and the music video is awesome; however, the original song is still in my opinion much better. SO check them out below:   (original...

Song of the Week No. 8

Image
Hello there!  This week's song was so hard for me to choose so I am cheating and picking TWO!  First up is "Blue Monday" by New Order aka my favorite band right now.  Second choice is "Claire de Lune" by Flight Facilities, who I mentioned in my July Music! because I have been obsessed. I hope you enjoy!! Let me know what you think :) xx

July Music!

Image
I've realized I sing to myself a lot. I hope people don't hear me. Or if they do, I hope they know I'm am singing/humming and not just talking to myself.  Some days I have a decent voice. Other days I am cringing  because I am so off pitch and awkward sounding, like I am trying too hard or something... usually because I am trying too hard.  I used to sing in a Chorale. Four years and my last as the president. This is sad for two reasons, 1) because I disliked it so much but was so invested that it felt it was too late to quit every year and 2) because even as president, ' senioritis ' (link: Urban Dictionary describes it quite well) was very much affecting me and I would occasionally skip class to help out in our scene shop during our spring play or to hang in lunch with friends longer.  {Whilst also on Urban Dictionary, I searched choir and I like this little description: "true choir lovers can usually be identified by the way they r...

Song of the Week No. 7

Image
Hello! So this week's song is "Lovesick" by the Friendly Fires. Their music makes me want to dance! Check this song out and let me know what you think. Coming up: a July Music post in a few days, as well as a Monthly Favorites! Also, my mother's birthday is in a couple days and I have a special post dedicated to her. Make sure to check them all out and leave your links below :)

Song of the Week No. 6

Image
Hello there! I am currently in New Jersey and I apologize for not posting for over a week. I promise a post on Portland with many exciting stories and photos, as well as a post on my NY/NJ trip as soon as I get home - expect it early next week :) So cracking on with the post, I have been listening to loads of music lately (well, as usual really). Whilst traveling, music helps pass the time and it inspires me as I wait to arrive at my destination. In choosing the song for this past week, I would have to go with "New York" by Paloma Faith. In my June Music post I talked about how I have been loving her and her funky vibe.  Check it out if you haven't already and let me know what you think! Hope you have all been well and enjoying the July heat! (I am currently suffering from about thirty bug bites all over my body from being outside a bit too much these past three days... UH OH .) xx

June Music!

Image
Hello my lovelies! So I thought I would let you know what I have been listening to this past month! On top of all the artists I featured in my Song of the Week posts (my most recent one is here ), these are four of my favorite artists/bands from June.  I recognize that not all people have the same taste in music but I would definitely recommend checking these out if you haven't heard of them just to experience and try something new! So the first is Paloma Faith , an English singer. She is so quirky and fierce! I have especially been loving her album "Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful" - particularly these songs: "Upside Down" , "Romance is Dead" , "New York" and "Stone Cold Sober" .  Next featured artist is Alt-J , an English indie rock band. I am going to see them in concert in NYC in September and I couldn't be more excited! I just got into them this month and I would recommend checking out "Fitzpl...

Song of the Week No. 5

Image
Hello there my lovelies!!! This week's song is "No Angels" - a mash up of TLC's "No Scrubs", The xx's "Angels", and a voiceover of Norman Bates, sung by Bastille featuring Ella.  Even though I have loved this song for quite some time, I heard it again whilst hanging with my friends this past weekend and it reminded me of how much I love Bastille. Also, I featured a Bastille song a while back in my May Music post here . I have been working on my June Music throughout this entire month and SPOILER:  I am going to feature The xx because I have been so addicted. I am hopefully going to their concert with my friend Gabby in September in NYC! So, getting back on track, not only do I love each song individually, but Bastille and Ella do a beautiful job of creating a powerful song that leaves you with chills.  Here is the song for you to check out!   Let me know what you think and if you haven't heard the two original songs,...
