Surprise Day!

Hello lovely humans!
I recently had an amazing day with two of my best friends, Mary Gael and Kelly. These girls have been there with me through the thick and thin of high school and the past two years of whirlwind college adventures. Since Mary Gael goes to school in Ohio and Kelly in Philadelphia (and me in New Jersey), I only get my breaks to spend with them. Let's just say we are certainly making the most of our time together. This past weekend was Kelly's last weekend home before she goes to Ireland for a six week program through her university. Then when she comes back, I leave for England the next week. Mary Gael leaves for England at the end of the summer for a whole year and Kelly goes back to Philly for her semester. SO this weekend was very important for us and we happened to stumble upon some exciting things....

We met for brunch at 11 am at First Watch, a cute daytime cafe that has amazing organic food. I got an egg white omelet with spinach, turkey, feta, tomato, sautéed onions and a plain english muffin. It was delicious and a great way to start the day off.

Then we decided to go walk around a really cool area of Cleveland called Ohio City. There is the infamous West Side Market, lots of super hippy restaurants and bars, and cool vintage places to shop... but when we drove down there, we realized it was a zoo and there was absolutely no parking because it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and everyone clearly agreed with us in thinking that Ohio City was cool and definitely the place to be.

So, a little disappointed but still determined to have a good day, we decided to head into downtown and go to the Art Museum because 1) it's free and 2) culture.

As we got close, we realized yet again that the area we wanted to go to was super hip and happening and EVERYONE wanted to be there. Little did we know, the Cleveland Museum of Art was having their annual festival called Parade the Circle which celebrates the beautiful culture we have in our community in a parade of bright costumes, giant puppets, stilt-dancers, handmade masks, colorful floats, art instillations, and lots of good food.

So basically we freaked out and said we needed to go to this festival because 1) it's free and 2) culture... obviously. I did have a mini sad moment when I realized this would have been the PRIME opportunity to take photos with my crazy expensive Christmas gift but alas, I didn't know I was going to stumble into this extremely blissful situation. After about an hour of searching for free parking (because WE ARE POOR COLLEGE STUDENTS SAVING FOR OUR EUROPEAN TRAVELS), we triumphantly snagged a spot and practically fell into the sunlight and proceeded to immerse ourselves in the culture for the next several hours.

Then after a successful experience at the festival, we drove across Cleveland to the west side and joined my mom & younger brother Connor for dinner at one of Michael Simon's restaurants called B Spot. It. Was. Delicious.

Then we walked past Urban Outfitters. I felt weak at the knees but I was practically dragged past it by my friends (having to remind myself how much I want to survive when I am in England and how that unfortunately requires money).

We bought a few little bits from Trader Joe's before Connor's baseball game.

We finished the night watching Connor's baseball game :)

 JK!
We went back to Mary Gael's and stayed up until 4 am talking :)
I had such a great day doing simple, cheap things with incredible people.
Hope you had a good weekend too!
Also I apologize for the not so great photos. I now know to bring my camera every time there could potentially be a surprise festival!
Thanks for reading.
xx
