August Music!

Hello there!

Here is the music I have been loving this month. I have been listening to a lot of indie rock and alternative bands lately. If you haven't heard of some of these, check them out and let me know what you think!

Ellie Goulding - I am assuming that anyone who hasn't been living underneath a rock has heard of my girl Ellie. She has been my favorite singer for the past five years and I can't believe how big she has gotten! Her music is so inspiring, beautiful, and exciting. She keeps cranking out new music and it is so incredible. Here are three of her latest singles:
  • Burn
  • You My Everything
  • Ritual
American Authors - I have been listening to them on repeat. They are an American-indie rock band from Brooklyn, NY and they just have such a great vibe. I definitely think their song "Best Day of My Life" has been my summer song! Check these out:
  • Best Day of My Life
  • Best I Could Do
  • Believer
Foals - These guys are awesome. They are an English indie rock band. They are just really cool and I want to be their best friend because I feel like they probably have an awesome time on tour.
  • My Number
  • Inhaler
  • Cassius
Friendly Fires - I mentioned them back in my Song of the Week No. 7 post. These guys are another indie rock band but they have an electronic-disco-dancey-punk vibe to them. This is the kind of music I want to dance and lose myself in at a club.
  • Live Those Days Tonight
  • Lovesick
  • Jump in the Pool
What do you think of these bands/artists?

September Wishlist

September Wishlist

1) Oversized Glasses - I am actually getting these within the next couple days but they have been on my wishlist for ages now! I have had the same pair of glasses for the past 4 years and I am excited for a change in look!
2) Merona Red Messenger Bag - $35. I have been eyeing this at Target for the past month and I am determined to get it for September and being back at school.
3) Oxfords - I need to get my hands on a pair of oxfords. Anyone know where I can get a cheap but awesome pair?
4) Nars Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder - $34. Last time I was at Sephora, I almost bought this and am now regretting it. I have to go back and make the purchase because I keep hearing about how great it is! I love a soft matte finish to complete my look.
5) Urban Decay Basics Palette - $31. I love all six of these shades and I have been really wanting a new palette. I tend to wear lighter shades of eyeshadow during the day.
6) Topshop Hooded Lightweight Jacket - $120. I love this color and I have seen this jacket on several YouTubers. It is my dream jacket right now and I think it would be great for fall on my campus.  The price is really the only thing keeping me from getting it so I may keep looking for a cheaper version.

DIY: Polaroid Clothesline

Hello there!
So, I have been such a slacker blogger and have not posted since Monday :( I am so sorry. I have been super busy spending time with all my friends since the majority of them leave this weekend to return to college.
But, this post is a great way to get back in the swing of things! It is a DIY that I found off of Pinterest which I am going to put in my dorm room.
I move back in one week so I will do a dorm room tour as soon as I am settled in. Until then, here is what I am making to spice up the corners of the room with photos! I did this trial run and took these pics to give you a visual of the DIY project. I put the clothesline up in my living room.

You will need:
- Wood Clothespins
- Tacks
- Scissors
- Twine / Twisted Mason Line / String (whichever you can get your hands on)
- Polaroids / Printed out photos

First off, you will need to cut the string long enough the hold as many photos as you want. I printed out 40 polaroids but for this tutorial am putting six across each line.
You then want to hang the line into a wall using the tacks. If you can't push tacks into your wall (i.e. if it is good old college cinderblock, then you could also keep the line up with clear or colorful tape/adhesives.
Then you just hang the photos on the line using the clothespins and VIOLĂ€!

I am excited to show you my version in my dorm.
What do you think of this DIY?
Would you do this in you dorm?
Do you think I should add little extra bits in between the polaroids - maybe cut out shapes or regular printed photos?
Hope you enjoyed!

Song of the Week No. 10

Hello there!
So here we are - my 10th song of the week post. I have decided not to cheat this week and limit myself to only choosing ONE.

 "Pumpin Blood" by NONONO.
I hope you like it because I have been loving blasting this as loud as possible whenever I hear it, no matter where or when I hear it.

The bunny at the end makes the video.

Let me know what you think!

Hello! I haven't done an Insta-week in what seems like forever! I'm not sure I will keep doing these kind of posts so let me know in the comments if you really like them. Here is a quick collage of some recent pics :) I actually recently just won a giveaway from an Instagram account I follow so I have been a bit more obsessed with instagramming than usual. So, follow me for more at: graceleneghan12.

So then we went to Sephora...

Hello :)

So I have to share this with all of you because I am BEYOND excited right now!! Today is my little sister's 13th birthday (Happy Day of Birth Mary!) and we decided to go on a little shopping trip to Sephora aka the mothership. Mary, being a beauty insider member, was eligible to get a gift for her birthday and my mom needed some new products! This is what happened... we became VIB's...

So most of these products are my mother's because she really needed some new products to combat her mild rosacea, which causes her redness on her cheeks.

So she got a great new foundation which is the Clinique Even Better Compact, a facial moisturizer called Dermadoctor Calm, Cool, & Corrected, the Philosophy's Purity Facial Cleanser, a Pro-Angled Contour Brush, and finally the new Clarisonic Aria Sonic Skin Cleansing System. We each actually got our own specialized brush and are going to share it (but it is mostly for my mom and Mary because I will be at college).

Mary got the Benefit They're Real! Mascara and the Watt's Up Highlighter

I got the Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray which was on my July Wishlist (eek so excited) and the Philosophy's Purity Facial Cleanser as well.

My lovely new items!

Grace-facing :) Love this chick.

So that's it!! Have you tried any of these products? Let me know what you think :)

DIY Crafts: Notebook & Mason Jars

Hello there!
So lately I have become addicted to Pinterest (again). As I am preparing to go back to school, I have been feeling really inspired to try out some DIY projects for my dorm!

1) This first DIY is to spruce up a regular old spiral notebook and make it awesome.
I got the idea from a pin of Melisa from Pie 'N' The Sky's triangle love notebook. When I saw it, I immediately thought, I can do that - I should give it a whirl!

All you need is...
- a notebook (mine had a plain black cover and was $1 from Target)
- glue (I used Rubber Cement but a glue stick would work perfectly fine as well)
- scissors
- photos / magazine clippings / cardboard **
- Mod Podge and a brush

** I used snippings from National Geographic, Vogue, and Seventeen, as well as construction paper to write lyrics from my fav song. I also took my 'Mylo Xyloto' Coldplay album and cut a pattern from the insert in the CD with photos of them playing at concerts.

Cut your photos/clippings into triangles and glue them each down. Then coat a thin layer of Mod Podge to ensure that none of the ends start to peel. Let dry for 15-20 minutes and there you go!

2) In this next DIY, I made a spunky pencil and pen holder.

You will need...
- a mason jar
- glue (I used rubber cement again)
- paint and brush
- glitter

**I used Folk Art Gold Metallic Acrylic Paint

Cover your mason jar in glue- this is why I prefer rubber cement because you have a nice brush that is easy to guide around the jar. Whilst turning the jar, pour glitter over the glue to coat the jar. Let dry over night. Separately, paint the top of the mason jar to give it a more complete look. Depending on what paint you use, let dry for several hours. Put the two back together and voilĂ !

3) This last DIY is very similar to number two. I made a unique holder to keep all my quarters for laundry when I go back to college.

What you need...
- mason jar
- paint
- flower

This one is quite simple! All I did was paint the mason jar with three coats of purple wall paint (left over from when my sister painted the walls of our room). I let each coat dry for several hours. Then I spray painted the lid pink and red. And, well, that's about it!! You can spruce it up in any way you wish. I am choosing to not have the actually lid on but keep the band for a pop of color. Then I can just pour the quarters out for easy access.

So that's it! I will have a few more DIY posts in the next couple weeks as I prepare to go back to college.  I hope you enjoyed this post - let me know what you think!!

Flower Love

My little sister Mary, who is almost 13, makes headbands, bows, and clips for her hair out of cut material from old shirts and cheap fake flowers from the store... and they are amazing!! She is already a beauty/fashion guru in the making. I feel so inspired by her to be more creative with styling my hair, while saving a bit of money :)

So here are some photos of her clips and headbands:

Flower Love was inspired by a photo we saw on Pinterest*. She immediately wanted to recreate the look with a fishtail braid when we saw it because she just bought some daisies that looked quite similar. Here's me casually sitting in some grass modeling her work...

(Secret: I was actually wearing boxer shorts underneath this dress and a car filled with attractive guys  drove by... I was kind of maybe a bit mortified because when standing you could definitely see the boxers. Needless to say, we ran and hid).

Flower Power are two of her flower headbands that, in my opinion, are just as adorable and wearable as the expensive flower headbands you might find at Urban Outfitters or Topshop. She just used a thick piece of ribbon, a few fake flowers (that were literally 97c at the store for a whole slew of them), and glue! How clever :)

So, what do you think?? My sister is precious and talented, am I right??
I hope you enjoyed :)
*I just got a Pinterest account specifically for this blog. It will basically be about fashion and music so if you have one, leave your links! Check it out here

Song of the Week No. 9

So you know when you are obsessed with a song and you play it over and over because it is just so good BUT THEN you have played it 17 times too many and you become sick of it and whenever you hear it you don't feel that same passionate love you felt when you had first heard it? Yeah, I know about that feeling too BECAUSE I DO IT TO EVERY SINGLE SONG I LIKE. But, I guess it is a good thing in a way because I can continue to create these weekly song of the week posts because I change my favorite song about every 5 or 6 days. But, for the second week in a row, I can't choose just one song - so TWO it is!

First off, I can't get enough of Lorde right now. Her song "Royals" is quirky, clever, and catchy. First time I heard it was actually when catching up on my Taryn Southern subscription on YouTube. She did a cover with Julia Price and the music video is awesome; however, the original song is still in my opinion much better. SO check them out below:

Second song is "Out Of My League" by Fitz and the Tantrums. Oh my lord I cannot stop listening to this. I listen to it and happiness flows through me (I am such a weirdo). Give it a listen:

So there ya go! Let me know what you think of these songs below in the comments.

Also, I recently formed a Facebook page for this blog which you can find here. I was a bit skeptical but I think it will be much easier for some to just check the page for updates of my posts.

What has been YOUR song of the week? Seriously, if you are reading this, comment below and let me know!! I want to know what you have been loving.

Monthly Favorites | July

I know this is a bit late, considering we are already 8 DAYS into August, but I figured I would still do a monthly favorites post for July because I have been loving so many new things!

So here are all the things I have been loving!

 - These are my two favorite shoes at the moment. The green pair of flats on the left are from a thrift shop called The Red Light in Portland. They are a deep foresty green velvet material and they were $8!  The pair to the right are Mad Love flats from Target.  They are such a funky pattern and are really comfortable.
- This is my everyday wallet which I have had for the past THREE YEARS! It is literally falling apart but I haven't been able to get rid of it and buy a new one. It was from a little shop in New Jersey called Jenna and Molly
- I have been using this vintage little bowl to hold all my post earrings. I found it in a box while cleaning my house and I decided to put it to use.

- I have been OBSESSED with the Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks. I know I don't need to do a review of these because bloggers talk about them ALL THE TIME (and with good reason). Like I mentioned in my I Heart Summer Tag post, my favorite of the five I own is the 103, which is a creamy matte faded pink. I personally love matte lipsticks so these have become my favorites lately.

- This is an old cigar box that I found at house of VINTAGE in Portland. I mentioned in my Dorm Room Wishlist post that I wanted some old cigar boxes to have as unique storage containers. I have been keeping my lipsticks inside this one on my vanity so it is easy to grab one if I need it.

- This is the No7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Lotion. It was about $9 from Target. It smells like a fruity rose (if that is even a thing) and it provides my face with great moisture. I usually use it in the nighttime after I have taken off my makeup with my Clinique Take the Day Off but before my Neutrogena toner. AND, having had it for almost two months, it seems like I have barely used any of it so the bottle will definitely last me awhile.
- I love this! It is the Coach Poppy rollerball from Sephora. I almost bought the Marc Jacobs Daisy in a rollerball but was tempted by the fact that for nearly the same price, I would get the option of two fragrances instead of one. I keep this in my purse and have it for when I feel I need a bit of a refresher.

So there's all that. Now on to entertainment - Movies and TV!

- Doctor Who. Enough said.
- Spring Breakers was... confusing. I have seen it twice now and both times it left me speechless. If anything, it is interesting. I didn't hate it but I didn't necessarily like it.
- Zack and Miri Make a Porno was hilarious. I am in love with Seth Rogen and think that Elizabeth Banks is such an amazing actress/comedian. It is quite inappropriate for obvious reasons but I couldn't stop laughing as I watched it.
- Skins season 7 has ruined my life. It is over now and I feel so hollow. I seriously would watch all three of the characters (Effy, Cassie, and Cook) played out for the rest of their lives. I bawled my eyes out at the end of all three of their endings. If you haven't seen any Skins, I advise you to start from the beginning (they are on Netflix or you can probably get episodes on Youtube) and watch all the generations (especially series 1 and 2 aka seasons 1-4). It is insanely captivating.

Alright, now that I have ranted on about my deep love for Skins, it is time to ask YOU what your favorites were from July?

I hope you enjoyed this post <3

My First Time | TAG

Hello there!
So I have been tagged by one of my favorite bloggers, Sinead from Dreaming Again, who you all should check out if you haven’t already, to do the “My First Time” tag! I have watched and read so many Youtubers/bloggers do this tag and I have secretly always wanted to do one. So, now the opportunity has arisen and I am very excited to share with you all of these “first times”.

The Rules:

•   You must share the following firsts and give the story or the context behind them.
•   You must Tag 10 other bloggers to do to the tag.
•   No tag backs

First Best Friend -
I believe my first best friend would probably be a boy named Zach who was the son of my parents’ really good friends. They had two kids, one daughter, who was my older brother’s age, and one son, who was my age. We spent loads of time with them when I was little and I can remember loving our play dates, etc. We were besties probably from when I was two to about five.

First Kiss -
My first kiss was when I was 16 with my boyfriend at the time. We were waiting for his mom to pick us up (ha!) from the mall where we had seen a movie. We took a walk outside and were chatting about until we sat down. Then, to my surprise, he literally pecked me… if you blinked you would have missed it.

First Concert -
My first official concert was Christina Aguilera’s Back to Basics tour when I was 13 with my mom. Danity Kane and The Pussycat Dolls opened and I thought they were so cool. Christina was actually amazing though. She basically put on a circus performance and I remember being in awe.

First Celebrity Crush -
I want to say my first celebrity crush was either Kevin Alexander Clark from School of Rock or Skandar Keynes from The Chronicles of Narnia. I was convinced that I was going to marry them both.

First Word –
This is sad but I asked both of my parents and they have no clue. I mean, with four kids I don’t really blame them for not remembering but still it is kinda sad. My mom thinks though that it was something generic like da or ma.

First Pet –
Well since my mom is allergic to cats and dogs, the only pets we have had are fish and our turtle Zach, which we have had for the past 8 years. But officially, my first pet would be a fish. We had a massive, long tank that we would fill with probably around one hundred fish at a time. Not very personal, I know.

First Job –
My first paid employment was babysitting my cousin, who was two, for an entire summer everyday from 7 am to 3 pm. I am not going to lie, it was pretty awful at some points. She was going through the epitome of a toddler’s “terrible twos”. She would pull my hair, bite me, and screech at the top of her lungs. But then the next minute she would be sweet as pie and tell me she “wuved me”. It was exhausting work. I was 13. I haven’t babysat since.

First Phone –
My first phone was a Samsung R500 Hue Bluetooth Blue Camera Phone. There is a rule in my family that you have to wait until high school to get a cell phone. So, the summer before my freshman year, I got my baby. I named it Ulysses S. Grant and we had wild times.

First Tweet –
“finally home after being stuck at airport in Atlanta for almost 7 hours last night. strolled in around 3 am.”
I can remember that night vividly.

First Make-Up –
My first makeup was a shell shaped palette of lip gloss/lip stick. There were about seven lip products in it and they were shaped like little shells from the ocean. I was in 6th grade. I didn’t start wearing eye makeup though until 8th grade.

Tasmin from RazMaTaz-Girl
Lauren from Living in a Boxx
Amy from theprettyvain
Clare from claresloves
Lulu from heyit'slulu
Jane from Jane's Jumbles

So that is it! I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about me :)

Song of the Week No. 8

Hello there!

This week's song was so hard for me to choose so I am cheating and picking TWO!

First up is "Blue Monday" by New Order aka my favorite band right now.

Second choice is "Claire de Lune" by Flight Facilities, who I mentioned in my July Music! because I have been obsessed.

I hope you enjoy!! Let me know what you think :)

Dorm Room Wishlist

Dorm Room Wishlist

Hello there! So I have less than a month now till I go back to school and I am so excited for some new bits I have for my dorm. I still have a few things I really would love to get and here are some of them:

Starting in the top left corner is a tapestry. I LOVE tapestries and I think they can make a room look more full, warm, and cozy. Next to that is an old fashioned cigar box. When I was in Portland I bought one at a thrift shop and I have been using it to store my lipsticks. I think they are great for storage and look interesting on a vanity. Below the cigar box is a Rory Dobner Cat cushion. I love this pillow and hope I can find a cheaper substitute! I definitely want to continue buying more and more pillows for my bed to make it a decorative couch during the day when people are visiting. To the right of the pillow is a cyan design twin bird-nest container. I have one that looks quite similar but I want another one to hold my bracelets. To the right of the bird-nest holder is another awesome pillow. It is a Laurel Burch tapestry pillow called "Native Felines". This one I really want because it is only $26 from Colorful Critters. Starting back at the left side behind several items is a Crate & Barrel Cuzco Rug. On top of the rug is a tea canister which I want to use to store pens and pencils. Next to that is a French Perle Blue Accent Plate. These little plates are great for a decorative way to organize jewelry, etc. Next to the plate is a photo of some rose fairy lights. I definitely want to get my hands on some of these and possibly line them across my wall to highlight my photos. Below the lights is a poster of an American map. I have two that I have saved, one from a National Geographic magazine and one that I found lying about in our basement. I think they are another great way to fill the hollow walls of a dorm and make it more cozy and interesting. Next to the map are some more cute plates - specifically a set of 4 Butterfly Bloom Tea Plates. And finally, above the plates are some skull votive candles. These are awesome. Being that dorms do not allow real candles, I want to get some unqiue holders like these skull ones and then put battery powered tea lights inside to give the impression of real candlelight.

What do you have in your room/dorm to make it reflect your style, interests, and personality?

July Music!

I've realized I sing to myself a lot. I hope people don't hear me. Or if they do, I hope they know I'm am singing/humming and not just talking to myself.

Some days I have a decent voice. Other days I am cringing because I am so off pitch and awkward sounding, like I am trying too hard or something... usually because I am trying too hard.

I used to sing in a Chorale. Four years and my last as the president. This is sad for two reasons, 1) because I disliked it so much but was so invested that it felt it was too late to quit every year and 2) because even as president, 'senioritis' (link: Urban Dictionary describes it quite well) was very much affecting me and I would occasionally skip class to help out in our scene shop during our spring play or to hang in lunch with friends longer.

{Whilst also on Urban Dictionary, I searched choir and I like this little description: "true choir lovers can usually be identified by the way they randomly break out singing anytime, anywhere". I know a few of these.... alas, I am not one.}

BUT, despite my hatred of structured group harmonic singing, I still love to sing.

So the point of all that was that I was 'under my breath singing' one of the songs ("Clair de Lune") in this month's music favorites ALL DAY TODAY and I am a bit embarrassed because people totally heard me and it was hella AWK.

So, there ya go. Story time over! On to what I have been loving and what I think YOU should check out!

1) Snow PatrolNorthern Irish/Scottish alternative rock band
(The Golden Floor / The Lightning Strike / Somewhere a Clock is Ticking / Take Back the City)

2) KimbraNew Zealand recording artist based in Melbourne, Australia
(Settle Down / Warrior / Posse)

3) Flight Facilitiesan Australian indie electro DJ duo who also performs as Hugo & Jimmy
(Crave You / Clair de Lune** / With You / I Didn't Believe)

4) Purity RingCanadian electronic music duo
(Fineshrine / Belispeak / Lofticries / Crawlersout)

{Sorry, no links to them on Youtube like last time - that took me forever and I wanted to get this post up tonight! Seriously though, look them up though!!}

I have loved Snow Patrol for YEARS and "The Golden Floor" was my favorite song for a whole year in high school. The other three are fairly new loves and I would definitely recommend trying them out to see if you like what they are about. If you do, let me know what you think! It's funny because when I made this blog I thought I would be more into beauty/fashion but I just LOVE talking about music and listening to people's recs and giving recs/opinions on what is quality, awesome, unique, etc.

What have YOU been listening to?! Tell me! PLEASE. I love hearing from you in the comments :)
